{"id":679,"date":"2023-11-18T10:48:11","date_gmt":"2023-11-18T18:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/liangqi.org\/?p=679"},"modified":"2023-11-18T11:02:14","modified_gmt":"2023-11-18T19:02:14","slug":"issues-to-switch-to-xfinity-gateway-router-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/liangqi.org\/?p=679","title":{"rendered":"Issues to switch to Xfinity Gateway (Router Changes)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are several things we need to do to make things easier when change router<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the same network name and password. A lot of devices can automatically connect to the new network as long as the name\/password are same.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the same subnetwork name. In my case, I change &#8220;10.0.0&#8221; to &#8220;192.168.103&#8221;. Some hosts may keep the same IPS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You will run into following issues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>IP changes.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>nuc2-5. The NAS mapping would break when the host IP changes. We need to do\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>umount -f -l \/mnt\/nas . to force umount the old link. We have to do this other wise even we change fstab file, the new mount won&#8217;t work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change the fstab file to the new ip<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>mount \/mnt\/nas. (For my case, I need to change \/mnt\/nas and \/mnt\/zuora. One to the NAS server and another to my mac mini.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Need to change the port forwarding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public IP changes. This is weired. when I use the Xfinity gateway, the public IP changes to 98.42.113.167. but if I use my own router the ip changes back to <a href=\"https:\/\/whatismyipaddress.com\/ip\/98.37.111.173\">98.37.111.173<\/a> . Remap liangqi.org to new public IP. <br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Next time, if I want to change router, most of smart device would just work but I need to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the same network name. ip<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure use the same subnet. 192.168.103.*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check nuc2-5, Nas, MacMINI Ips. If they change, change it in nuc2-5.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Port fowarding.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Notes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Limitation on the Xfinity Gateway<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Port forwarding doesn&#8217;t work. I think it may be only 443 and 80. Since the router admin page would use it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Port forwarding has to use the same port in the source and target.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Admin page is slow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I switch to use &#8220;bridge&#8221; mode and then I can use my own router. The thing is now the admin page doesn&#8217;t show up and how I can turn off &#8220;bridge&#8221; mode? Even I don&#8217;t think I would try that&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Pending issue<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>need to bind ds220j to 192.168.103.51. If the ip changes, the nuci-5 mapping won&#8217;t work (Done.
